Whether you come for the giggles of a child or the chisels of a workshop, welcome! I’m Frédérique, the founder of Giggles and Chisels, LLC, and the author of these words. We hope our words bring you joy and peace while deepening your curiosity about early childhood and the amazing abilities of young children—like an infant rolling over for the first time, a toddler confidently exploring their world, or a preschooler drawing a dinosaur with the precision of a paleontologist, and so much more.
Giggles and Chisels, LLC was founded to elevate young children—their uniqueness, ingenuity, candor, and natural curiosity—while keeping us, “not-so-young” children anymore, deeply connected to those early years of life through an imaginary world of wooden Fellows, created by my daughter, Rosie, and me, some years ago.
Rosie and me
Why does early childhood have such a deep meaning for me?
I genuinely believe that everyone should be deeply curious about young children. After all, they are the ones shaping our future, aren’t they? We hope our posts inspire you to nurture that curiosity about young children, whether they are a daily presence in your life or not.
I have been in the professional field of early childhood education for over 15 years, always eager to explore research-based resources related to young children and activities that stimulate their incredible brains. We hope our posts inspire you to slow down when you can, and take some time to listen to young children’s thinking. We aim to offer ideas to easily engage with their curiosity.
I was once the mom of two young children who went through those magical years with so little time to implement all the fantastic research-based ideas mentioned earlier : ) Parenting can be overwhelming with its ups, downs, doubts, and joys. If you read those words as a parent of young children, we hope that our posts bring you comfort and reassurance. Raising children is an arduous journey, and there’s no need to add unnecessary pressure to yourself. Take what you can from our posts—whether a little or a lot—depending on your own journey.
I grew up in France and have spent most of my adult life in the U.S., often reflecting on the differences between educational and parenting practices in the two countries. I hope you enjoy the unique French-American perspective that infuses our work.
Our team, as of November 18, 2024!Finally, and most importantly, a piece of myself got stuck in those early years when I lost my dad at four years old. Creating this imaginary world with Rosie has been a healing process for me, and I hope the wooden Fellows bring you both joy and comfort. I also hope they awaken the young child inside all of us—regardless of our own early childhood experiences.
Together, let’s embrace and raise awareness of the often-unnoticed potential of young children, showing the world the attention and care they deserve to grow in peace.
