March 2026 Theme: Seeing Math around

Mme Rigolotte’s favorite way to do math? With a sewing machine!

After beginning 2026 with January’s focus on questioning, and February’s focus on imagination, we continue our slow, deep rhythm into March with another theme close to the Petit Refuge: seeing math all around us.

Why seeing math all around us?

Early math is such a natural way to engage with everyone, as math is simply a language that helps us communicate when words are not enough, and math is all around. If you have had bad experiences with school math, we hope you continue to trust us with the process as we embrace patterns, measurement, data and beyond. Early math is an amazing gateway to enter young children’s surprising way of thinking, which we encourage everyone to see.

Whether you like to spend time in a workshop, next to a sewing machine, surrounded by books, or simply outside, math is indeed all around and the wooden Fellows are commiteed to take you on their journey!

Your Turn to see the math around you

To support your exploration this month, we shared a free Bingo sheet.

As always, there is no right way to do it.  Choose any square on your card. Go explore, observe, and when you have found or thought about what the square asks, mark it off. Work your way across, down, or diagonally to get five in a row, or challenge yourself to fill the whole card!

If you manage to find, notice, and think about every single square, we want to hear about it. Send us a message telling us your favorite discovery from the card, and you will be entered into a draw. We can’t wait to hear what you noticed!

Practicing Together, Week by Week

We will embrace our theme in our weekly pause, named 4UsAll, throughout March of 2026, using magical stories from the Petit Refuge.

Wrapping up at the end the month

At the end of the month, we will share a reflective blog post that synthesizes what emerged in March, weaving together stories, insights, and research-based reflections on the art of seeing that math is indeed all around!.
