Reconnecting with Early Childhood: An Invitation from the Wooden Fellows

What if we could remember our own early childhood?

Do you ever wonder what would happen if we could remember our own early childhood more clearly? Would it help us hold onto our imagination? Deepen our empathy toward young children? Strengthen our advocacy?

From birth to five, one go from complete immobility to running and hopping, communicating through gestures, spoken words, and even visual representation such as writing and drawing.  Young children become curious explorers of new locations, tastes, sounds—everything is new, as they move from the protection of the womb to learning how to trust people beyond their home. Their imagination is unmatched, and their candor is refreshing.

As years pass, though, we forget.

This week, the wooden Fellows remind us to slow down, to notice, to a kind of holistic joy that does not require constant stimulation. They want you to (re)connect with a quieter, more attentive way of being, one that mirrors the openness and wonder of early childhood.

In other words, they invite us to be a child for a moment : )

If you were a young child...

Mme Rigolotte, a wooden puppet, on a beach, with her name written in the sand
... what would you write in the sand?
Petite Clothilde, a wooden puppet, whispering to small wooden characters
... what stories would you whisper to your friend?
Maurice, a wooden puppet, in front of markers and paper
... what would you draw?
Maurice, a wooden puppet, writing a letter
... what letter would you write to your young self to find peace?
Petite Clothilde, a wooden puppet, listening to music
... what music would you like to listen to?

Please comment and share your thoughts with us — we always look forward to learning from our community : )
